the mentality

As a basketball coach, I spend nearly 80% of my time developing my players’ mentality. I can’t control the missed shots, the tough opponents, the pressure, or the adversity that inevitably comes during a game. What I can do is help players build the mindset needed to push through challenges and perform at their highest level.

The same is true in education.

Educators face constant pressure—new initiatives, challenging behaviors, demanding schedules, and the emotional weight of supporting students every day. These realities aren’t going away. What we can control is the mentality we bring to the work.

In The Mentality, I draw on lessons from coaching, school leadership, and years in the classroom to help educators develop the mindset needed to thrive in today’s schools. Through powerful stories, humor, and 5 practical strategies, I show how educators can build a mentality that sustains their energy, strengthens their resilience, and keeps their focus on what matters most: their students.

When educators strengthen their mentality, everyone benefits—the school culture improves, students thrive, and educators nurture their own mental health.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Develop mindsets that help educators stay focused, resilient, and positive despite the daily challenges of the profession

  • Harness their own agency to drive the work, rather than having the work drive them

  • Maintain energy and enthusiasm throughout the school year

  • Build personal habits and routines that strengthen mental toughness and well-being
